Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has shown the way for India in the first innings of the ongoing Test match against South Africa at Newlands in Cape Town. The home side has been all over the visitors ever since they have come out to bowl in the first innings. The fiery quartet of Dale Steyn, Kagiso Rabada, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander wreaked havoc in the Indian batting line-up. However, Twitterati has absolutely loved the innings of Pandya amidst all the attention garnered by the bowlers.
India were expected to put up a fight after being reduced to 28/3 by the end of the first day. The first session saw only 48 runs scored in 23 overs but they lost Rohit Sharma who never looked comfortable during his 59-ball vigil in the middle. But the post-lunch session broke the hearts of the Indian fans as Philander snaffled Cheteshwar Pujara off the first ball. The procession continued as R Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha were also sent back with India reeling at 92/7.
Pandya show begins
Hardik Pandya came out to the middle with India in a huge trouble as he saw couple more wickets falling at the other end. But he took Bhuvneshwar Kumar by his side and played brilliant innings in a rescue-act for his team. First, he was patient but once he got his eye in, played some delightful strokes much to the joy of Indian supporters. Bhuvi, on the other hand, was very much settled and got off the mark only off the 34th delivery he faced.
In the process, Pandya batted beautifully and confused the hosts even as they dropped him on 15. He battered the quartet of pace bowlers fearlessly even playing his favourite uppercut at times. He brought up his half-century in only 46 balls and is looking good for more. He smashed Keshav Maharaj for 12 runs in his very first over and declared his intentions against the only spinner in the opposition ranks. There was also a missed stumping chance but the fortune has favoured the brave batsman so far with Pandya looking good for a famous century away from home.
He has certainly shown the way to bat to his seniors and needs to continue in the same way if India has to stand any chance to come back in this Test match. Twitterati went into a frenzy after watching his fearless knock and hailed him while trolling the top order of the batting line-up.

Hardik Pandya now has the highest score in this test. Against an attack that reads Steyn, Morkel, Philander and Rabada.

Two good knocks of Hardik Pandya in Tests and Ravindra Jadeja wasn't playing both the matches. ??

Hardik Pandya showing what he could have done in Champions Trophy final. Thankfully, no Ravindra Jadeja in the team this time.#INDvSA

Used to think Hardik Pandya was just a one-time wonder, then started to think maybe he just got lucky.. I stopped all of that in the CT final and this guy only got better. You can't just be lucky if you're the only batsman able to face this lethal attack. #SAvIND

Hardik Pandya is as mad as Virender Sehwag.
Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing ?#SAvIND

Clear thinking, positive intent, going full blooded for the strokes. Doing exactly what AB did yesterday: keep attacking cos you are anyway going to get one with your name on it. Brilliant counter attack by Hardik Pandya. 47 ball 50. #IndvSA

I like this chap Hardik Pandya. He seems to a big heart for a fight and unlike one superstar @imvkohli he is willing to stick around.

Hardik Pandya clearly has the commitment. Just hope the other key top order batsmen can do the same after first innings failure. Come on Team India, you can do it. #INDvSA
