The South African bandwagon continued on their merry way towards securing their place in the top of the ICC World Rankings with a thumping win over Sri Lanka. Kagiso Rabada was the star of the show with some fantastic bowling given the fact that he was simply steaming in with some terrific intent. This intent ensured that he picked six wickets on the day, something that ensured that it was once again a matter of a few hours before the South Africa wrapped up the second and final Test match at the Newlands.
While there was certainly some resistance shown by the likes of the senior batsmen Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal, the rest were simply sheep when it came to playing the seasoned and experienced bowlers of South Africa. While this was certainly a talking point, here are some of the most interesting talking points from the day’s play.
After having lost one-half of their opening pair on the previous day courtesy of a peach of a delivery from Vernon Philander, that dismissed Dimuth Karunaratne, the rest of the batsmen simply stood no chance. In fact, it was just the bowling pair of Kyle Abbott and Vernon Philander who were continuously creating inroads when it came to the batsmen being unsure of the seam movement as well as the reverse swing. Needless to say, they fell like a pack of cards and were simply no match to the opponents.
As skipper, Mathews has come under a considerable amount of fire. Of course, his side is certainly responsible for the 3-0 whipping of the Australians earlier this year, but the Lankans’ performances overseas has been quite horrific. Apart from the win against Zimbabwe, it seemed clear that there was some.

Despite this, Mathews led the defiance with an impressive 49. He was helped by Dinesh Chandimal and Rangana Herath in his crusade However, at the close of play, it was Kagiso Rabada who had the last laugh as far as the South Africa were concerned as they eventually went 2-0 up in the series.
Here is how Twitter reacted to South Africa’s win in the 2nd Test:
