Indian Test captain Virat Kohli continued his dream run in international cricket in 2016 and smashed his 15th Test hundred against England in the 4th Test in Mumbai on Saturday. Kohli who loves leading from the front again showed the way with his brilliant century and he will look to add few more runs to the team total to ensure India get a reasonable first innings lead.
Beginning the day at 146/1, India lost Cheteshwar Pujara in the very first over to Jake Ball as the tall fast bowler brought one back in and Pujara who decided to shoulder arms picked the wrong ball and it kissed the top of his off stump. Kohli who joined Vijay in the middle started on a positive note and both the batsmen tried ticking along the scorecard.
He survived a few initial close shaves grew in confidence and started finding the gaps on a regular basis. Along with Vijay he never allowed the English bowlers to dominate them. Kohli knew exactly what he was doing and was ably supported by Vijay.
The pair shared an 116-run partnership for the 3rd wicket but with the fall of Vijay’s wicket, there was a small collapse as far as India was concerned. They lost Vijay, Karun Nair and Ravichandran Ashwin in quick succession to help the visitors claw their way back into the game. Kohli who saw wickets falling from the other end remained calm and went about his business in a professional manner. With a long tail to follow the Indian captain will hope to bat as long as possible and take the Indian score to somewhere around 500.
At the time of publishing this post Team India was well placed at 421/7 with Kohli unbeaten on 136 and Jayant Yadav batting on 11. The stylish right-hander from Delhi has struck 14 fours in his innings so far and would look to add few more before England call the shots on their 1st innings.
As Kohli completed a terrific century, twitteratti was pretty active and certain tweets described the innings in the best possible manner. Here are some of the best tweets:
