Hazlewood was the star with the ball while Labuschagne continued to impress in Smith's absence.

It was England’s best chance to keep the hopes of regaining the Ashes alive in the third Test. They could have easily defeated a Steve Smith-less Australia and levelled the series. However, it was an absolute disaster for them on Day 2. After having bowled Australia out for 179 runs on Day 1, they could have potentially put the visitors under pressure with a huge first innings score. But some reckless batting from them left England in complete shambles.
As a result, they recorded their lowest score against this opposition since 1948. The shot selection of every English batsman was questionable on the day. It seemed as if they had a race to get back to the pavilion first. Joe Denly, with 12 runs, was the only batsmen to get into the double figures.
The rest of the batsmen were dismissed for single-digit scores which also included the duck of skipper Joe Root. Josh Hazlewood led the way for the Aussies with a five-wicket haul. While Pat Cummins picked up three wickets, James Pattinson accounted for a couple of scalps. England was bowled out for just 67 runs and conceded Australia a huge first-innings lead.
Marnus Labuschagne impersonates Steve Smith perfectly
Without Steve Smith, there were a lot of doubts about Australia’s batting. However, Marnus Labuschagne continued to impress ever since he replaced the former skipper. Even though Australia lost David Warner for a duck and despite losing two other wickets and being down to 52/3, the 25-year-old has shown some great character. Labuschagne also got one opportunity when he was dropped by Jonny Bairstow and he then ensured that he converted his score into a half-century.
He built up good partnerships with Travis Head and Matthew Wade who scored 25 and 33 runs respectively. Towards the end of the day, Ben Stokes bowled a superhuman spell. This is easily one of the best you’d ever see and he sent shivers down the spines of the batsmen. Yet, luck wasn’t on his side as Australia finished the day with 171/6.
Marnus Labuschagne was unbeaten on 53 and he has to bat with the tail now. Australia already has a lead of 283 runs and will look to push that further away from the reach of England with plenty of time left in the game. Twitterati fell short of words to describe his brilliance in the last three innings. They feel that Australia will be a much stronger force to reckon with when Smith comes back. Along with England, the fans also trolled David Warner for getting out for a cheap score yet again in the series.
Here is how Twitterati responded to the action-packed day:
This is an absolute Ecstasy ???? ????

Hearing some say that T20 cricket is the cause of poor Test Match batting.
Completely disagree – the standard of batting as a whole isn’t very good!
Good batters can change the way they play as per the form of cricket they’re playing.

Positive intent can also be when defending and leaving the ball. #GoodPositions #GoodDecisions #Ashes19

Like the way Marnus Labuschagne goes about his work. No fuss; no quarter given. Not a player who lives & dies by the opinions of others. The best thing for me is that we don’t need to judge him on stats alone. His enduring strength is the ability to endure. Test(ing) Cricket.

Sorry, but I still can’t do these names and numbers on Test shirts.
If I’m behind the times, then I’m so cool with that.— Kevin Pietersen???? (@KP24) August 23, 2019

Witnessed some amazing bowling by the Australian bowlers to bowl England out for just 67 runs.
The way the trio of Hazlewood, Cummins & Pattinson bowled was a treat to my eyes.I must say this is Test Match cricket at it’s best.#Ashes

There are not many days I don’t miss playing cricket for @englandcricket. Today, however, was one of them! Having been in the team on some very bad days myself one thing you must know is no one is hurting more than the players themselves right now. #Ashes2019 #ENGAUS

It’s certainly not an excuse but I’m genuinely interested in the answer-why are we playing an Ashes series in the same year as a World Cup again? We played back to back Ashes series in 2013 (which was ridiculous!!!) to avoid this clash? What happened? @bbctms @SkyCricket

“That T20 rubbish, destroying the game” says Mikey Holding. He once said T20 would destroy Test Cricket in 30 yrs. 100% agree. With the intro also of The 100 that’s as popular as the black death, it seems the ECB is ultimately engaged in heaping Test cricket’s own funeral pyre. pic.twitter.com/cNcp52DOyt

How Josh Hazelwood wasnt in the @CricketAus team from the 1st test is amazing to me. What it does show is the depth and quality they possess right now #TheAshes
