The crowd at Kimberley witnessed a spectacular performance from the home side as they produced a sensational one-sided victory over Bangladesh. While there were some stellar performances from Bangladeshi side too, South Africa cruised to a victory as they now lead the series 1 nil.

Earlier in the day, it was skipper Mashrafe Mortaza who won the toss as the visitors elected to bat first. While Bangladesh handed batting all-rounder Mohammed Saifuddin his international debut, Dane Peterson got to represent the Proteas in his maiden ODI.

Batting first, Bangladesh lost their first wicket in the form of Liton Das just before the end of the first powerplay. Shakib Al Hasan surprised many walking it at No.3. While Imrul Kayes got dismissed after a good start, Mushfiqur Rahim batted brilliantly. He put up 59 runs for the third wicket with Shakib and later 69 runs for the fourth wicket alongside Mahmudullah.

He went on to become the first ever Bangladesh player to record an international century in South Africa. He continued to bat till the end and played like a one-man army as Bangladesh managed to post a challenging total of 278/7 on the board.

Kagiso Rabada was the pick amongst the bowlers with four wickets while Dwaine Pretorius got a couple of wickets as well. Peterson didn’t have a great debut as he was expensive and went wicketless. As for Imran Tahir, he managed to get the lone but important wicket of Shakib.

278 would be a challenging total for any side but for the Proteas, it proved out to be a cakewalk. In fact, it required just two batsmen to make sure, they had it in their bag. Both the openers Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock put up a fantastic exhibition of batting on display.

They combined for an unbeaten opening partnership worth 282 runs. De Kock scored a magnificent knock of 168 runs from just 145 balls, an innings which had 21 boundaries and 2 sixes. Hashim Amla, on the other hand, became the quickest to score his 26th century with a valiant 110 not out.

South Africa went on to win the game by an astounding 10 wickets. They now lead the three-match series 1 nil with two matches to go. Twitter lauded the South African openers and trolled the Bangladeshi team except Mushfiqur for their poor display.
