The juggernaut for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) continued against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) as they registered their fourth consecutive win of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The win was set up by the bowlers after SRH skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and invited the opposition to bat. Veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar proved his mettle with the new and old ball both while Umran Malik set the stage on fire with his fiery pace.

PBKS missed their regular skipper Mayank Agarwal at the top of the order and they clearly struggled in that aspect. They lost Shikhar Dhawan, Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow early and were struggling at 48/3 in the 7th over. Jitesh Sharma soon got out to Umran as he couldn’t handle Umran’s pace. However, Liam Livingstone was batting on an entirely different pitch.

He played some cheeky shots, including a scoop over the fine-leg fielder multiple times. The execution of the shot was perfect on all the occasions while his power-hitting was also on show during the middle overs. Shahrukh Khan stood with him in the middle but couldn’t match his hitting skills on the day. PBKS were placed at 132 in the 17th over when the latter got out. But SRH pacers, especially Bhuvneshwar Kumar pulled things back really well.

He also dismissed the half-centurion Livingstone, who scored 60 off just 33 balls, to keep a check on the run-scoring. Umran Malik completed SRH’s comeback with a stunning final over picking three wickets (and a run-out off the final ball) and bowled a maiden as well. He finished with the figures of 4/28 while Bhuvi ended with 3/22 as PBKS could reach only 151 in their 20 overs.

A clinical chase from SRH

It has become a template for SRH. Bowl first, restrict the opposition to a decent total and then chase it down with aplomb. The mantra worked for them yet again despite their captain Williamson getting out early. Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi were watchful to start with and made sure they didn’t slip early in the chase. The duo added 48 runs for the second wicket to steady the innings. However, things became interesting when leg-spinner Rahul Chahar dismissed both in the space of two overs.

While Sharma scored 31, Tripathi mustered 34 before leaving the team in a spot of bother at 77/3 in the 11th over. Well, the middle-order batters continued to finish the job for SRH with Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran making sure there were no hiccups in the chase. They were slow to get off the blocks but kept churning boundaries to take the side home comfortably in the 19th over of the innings. PBKS bowlers tried everything they could but the score was just not enough for them to defend.

With this win, SRH climbed to the fourth position in the table while Punjab Kings slipped to the seventh position after losing their third game of the season.
