India finished Dat 2 of the fifth Test against England in the driver’s seat as they were 473/8 at stumps leading England by 255 runs in the first innings. The hosts resumed their innings on 135/1 with Rohit Sharma (52*) and Shubman Gill (26*) at the crease.

They extended their partnership beyond 100 and took India to lunch unscathed reaching their respective hundreds. Post Lunch, England made a comeback as Ben Stokes shattered Rohit’s stumps while James Anderson dismissed Gill. Following their dismissals, Sarfaraz Khan (56 off 60) and Devdutt Padikkal (65 off 103) got involved in a 97-run stand for the fourth wicket to take India past 370.

England further made another comeback as Dhruv Jurel (15 off 24), Ravindra Jadeja (15 off 50) and Ravichandran Ashwin (0 off 5) departed cheaply before Jasprit Bumrah (19* off 55) and Kuldeep Yadav (27 * off 55) took India to stumps.

1. Rohit Sharma completes 12th Test hundred

The Indian captain brought up his second hundred of the series and 12th of his career as he played a brilliant knock of 103 (162) with the help of 13 fours and a three sixes. The opening batter reached the landmark in 154 balls and took India’s score past 270.

2. Shubman Gill continues his rich form

The 24-year-old reached the fourth Test hundred of his career in style by sweeping Shoaib Bashir for a boundary. Gill reached his landmark off just 137 balls clobbering 10 fours five boundaries. He was finally dismissed for 110 (150) with the help of 12 fours and five sixes.

3. Ben Stokes dismantles Rohit Sharma’s stumps on the first ball after surgery

The England captain came on to bowl for the first time post his knee surgery and struck immediately on the very first ball as he dismantled the stumps of his Indian counterpart. The England all-rounder left Rohit squared up as the ball clipped his off-stump.

4. Devdutt Padikkal completes his maiden fifty with a maximum

The southpaw shone on his debut with a brilliant fifty scoring 65 (103) with the help of ten fours and a six. He completed his fifty with a maximum against Shoaib Bashir reaching the landmark in 83 balls.
