Team Sri Lanka stole victory from the jaws of defeat in the semi-final clash against Pakistan in the 2022 Women's Asia Cup as they won the game by just one run. The Women in Green failed to chase down 123 runs as the Island Nation will now face India in the final game.
Speaking about the game, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to have a bat first in a pressure match. The batting team got a decent start but the skipper Chamari Athapaththu was scalped in the fourth over of the match.
Opener Anushka Sanjeewani and Harshitha Madavi were the top performers with the bat as Sri Lanka Women finished on 122 runs in its allotted 20 overs. For Pakistan, Nashra Sandhu was the pick of bowlers as she took three wickets for her side.
Pakistan failed to cross an easy target of 122 runs
Chasing 123 runs to win, the Women in Green had a flying start as they crossed the 30-run mark in three overs. However, a spirited bowling performance for the Sri Lankan team meant that the bowling team made a strong comeback in the competition.
For Pakistan, the skipper Bismah Maroof scored 42 vital runs, but she got out at the wrong time. Bismah stitched a brilliant partnership with Nida Dar as the equation came down to 18 off the last three overs. However, Maroof got out at the wrong and it all came down to the last over with the batting team requiring nine runs to win the game.
Sri Lanka skipper handed the ball to Achini Kulasuriya to do a miracle for her side and she did produce a magical over for her team to reach the final. Needing nine runs to win, the Women in Green managed to get only seven runs in the final over as a run-out was affected on the final ball of the match with Sri Lanka setting its meeting with the Indian team in the final match of the tournament. Inoka Ranaweera was adjudged player of the match for her vital peformance in crunch situations.

Once again, Sri Lanka is turning out to be a multi-nation tournament beast…men’s won the Asia Cup. Women have reached the finals…not many gave either of them the chance to go that far. But they did. 👏👏 Sports is ❤️ Cricket is Life 🫶

A team that’s growing, defining roles, and has a strong core for the future.
Our men’s team had these moments, only for them to go on and become champions, the women’s team will too.
