The Ferozeshah Kotla stadium saw a one sided encounter in it’s first IPL game this year as Delhi Daredevils went on to win the game by 51 runs. Earlier in the day, it was Captain Zaheer Khan who won the toss as the hosts elected to bat first.

Delhi Daredevils began things in emphatic fashion as Sam Billings and Sanju Samson scored 49 runs with the power play overs. While Samson and later Karun Nair got out in quick succession, Billings went on to score an impressive half century, his first fifty this season.

Youngsters Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant got starts but failed to convert it into something big. At the end, it was Corey Anderson whose quickfire knock of 39(22)* assured Delhi Daredevils had enough runs on the board. Chris Morris and Pat Cummins also held a helping hand in ensuring the same.

Kings XI Punjab bowlers didn’t have a great day in the field as they were quite expensive. Pacers like Sandeep Sharma, Varun Aaron and Mohit Sharma were all taken for the cleaners. Axar Patel bowled economically in his first 3 overs before he was taken apart by Corey Anderson in the penultimate over.

On the other hand, the Kings XI Punjab’s innings faltered from the start. Manan Vohra was trapped in front of the stumps by Shahbaz Nadeem while Wriddhiman Saha was back to the pavilion owing to a fantastic catch by veteran Zaheer Khan. Hashim Amla struggled his way before he finally found the fielder.

The onus fell on Eoin Morgan and David Miller who couldn’t get the scoring rate higher. Glenn Maxwell surprisingly came at No.6 and was dismissed for a duck by a leg spinner yet again. At 88/6 with no chance of a possible victory, Axar Patel played a superb knock of 44(29) to make sure Kings XI Punjab didn’t lose out much in the NRR aspect.

At the end, Delhi Daredevils went on to win the game by 51 runs as the visitors were restricted to 137/9 in their quota of 20 overs. Chris Morris again stood out with commendable figures of 3/23. Pat Cummins and Shahbaz Nadeem also managed to get a couple of wickets each. Corey Anderson was deservingly rewarded the man of the match for his brilliance with both, the bat and the ball.
