Williamson and Guptill steadied the ship for New Zealand with their partnership and were looking all set for big innings. Pakistan got the breakthrough when both the batsmen were at the same end due to a mix-up. It was Guptill who made his way to the pavilion after an innings of 45.

Williamson was joined by another in-form player in the form of Ross Taylor and the two again started to build a partnership. Williamson completed his half-century in 81 balls. Ross Taylor completed his half-century during his partnership of 51. Shadab Khan’s twin strike in the 43rd over put Pakistan on the front seat. Taylor and Nicholls were Khan’s two victims.
