In the entire tournament so far, India’s campaign in each match had at least one player rising to the occasion as and when the situation demanded. Though the Indian bowlers did not get their first wicket as quickly as they would have wished, they were quick to make a comeback and chipped in with regular wickets.

After Poonam Yadav took Tammy Beaumont’s wicket, the English women found it difficult to post a match winning partnership. Taylor and Sciver did initiate a recovery and started to rebuild, however, it lasted only as long as Jhulan Goswami decided to showcase a stellar bowling performance in her second spell. She concluded with figures of 3/22 taking the big wickets of Taylor, Sciver and Wilson.

In her second spell, she was on a hat-trick after a dominating spell that brought the team back into the contest. Sciver remained the highest scorer with 51 runs and only Taylor came close to it with 45. There were some questions raised on the hesitation of the English team to use the DRS and it was only made worse as the tail could not make up for it in the death overs.

Despite a few misfields, wrong lengths and Shikha Pandey being targetted by the batters early on, the fielding imrovised and Deepti Sharma was one of those who displayed incredible athleticism. With hold on the game after Wilson’s wicket, it was easy to tame the tail and restricting the opponents to a target of  of 228/7 in 50 overs.

Though it is not a par score on an unusual Lord’s pitch, the Indian batters have been in inspired form and only excellent bowling from England can create chances of a victory for Heather Knight & Co. What will follow may be a life changing chase for the Indian women and cricket in general.
