Twitter Reactions: Indian colour dawns in Sri Lanka after 22 years: India won the final and decider Test match against Sri Lanka by 117 runs, also winning the series along with it. India finally win a series on the Sri Lankan soils after 22 years. Chasing the total of 386, Captain Angelo Mathews and debutant Kushal Parera kept India at bay for a while. But the Indian bowlers bounced back and the century from Mathews could not win the match for Sri Lanka. Ishant Sharma took 8 wickets in the final Test completing his 200-wicket haul in Test cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed another 4 to make it 21 for him in the series and was titled ‘Man of the Series’. The Sri Lankan batting line up collapsed, ending with a total of 268/10 in the 84th over.
The win after 22 years came after a lot of ups and downs in the last 5 days. Spicing up the Test clash was the fight between Ishant Sharma, Dhammika Prasad, Dinesh Chandimal and Upul Tharanga on the 4th day, sparks of which were seen in the final day as well. Virat Kohli registers his first series win as the Indian Test Captain.
This young Indian side looks promising and the series win will remain carved in the pages of history always. Cheteshwar Pujara’s career defining performance, a fast bowling leader India has craved for long, a dependable spinner, a flexible batting line-up, a lower order that can work its way with the bat amazingly and a pro-active Test captain, India is blooming towards a new phase.
