The third and final T20I between Afghanistan and Ireland turned out to be a high-scoring thriller. With more than 400 runs being scored at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground, The home team again managed to secure a victory and whitewash Ireland 3nil in the series.
Earlier in the day, it was captain William Porterfield who won the toss as Ireland elected to field first. Coming out to bat first, Afghanistan lost last match’s hero Najeeb Tarakai cheaply. However, Mohammed Shahzad went on to score scintillating innings of 72 runs from 43 balls.
He went on to hit 5 sixes and 6 boundaries. In the process, he also went on to pip Kohli among the top run scorers in T20 Internationals. Anyways at the end of the day, it was another sensational inning that stood out for Afghanistan.
Coming in at No.7, Mohammed Nabi went on to display a magnificent session of pinch hitting. Powering the innings with 9 sixes and 6 boundaries, Nabi smashed an astounding 89 runs from just 30 balls as he was dismissed on the last ball.
Afghanistan went on to post a mammoth total of 233/8 in their quota of 20 overs. Every bowler was taken away to the cleaners with Shapoor Zadran conceding 60 runs in his four overs. Even their best bowler, Kevin O’Brien who took 4 wickets went for 45 runs.
The total was never going to be easy. Ireland openers Paul Stirling and Stuart Thompson had their eyes set. Together both combined for an opening partnership of 65 runs from just 26 balls. Ireland were again put to backfoot as they lost both openers and there was some panic in their batting ranks.
The Irish wicketkeeper Gary Wilson then played a valuable knock to keep Ireland within the game with a nicely crafted 59(34). However, Rashid Khan bowled a phenomenal penultimate over to seal the game for Afghanistan. On a day where runs came easy, Rashid Khan impressed again with figures of 3/28.
The Ireland batsmen fell short by 28 runs as Afghanistan went on to lift the trophy. Undoubtedly Mohammed Nabi went on to win the man of the match. Twitter was all praise for Afghan players who showed some great valour throughout the series.
Here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game.

Had Paul Stirling completed his fifty, he could have become the 2nd player after Yuvraj Singh to score 3 T20I fifties in 21 or fewer balls.
