Not many fans were pleased to see David Willey wearing a sling on his left arm after the Kolkata ODI against India. England managed to avoid a whitewash as they won the final ODI by 5 runs. Earlier in the game, their pace bowler Willey had bowled just 2 overs in the Indian innings. He had left the field thereafter citing an injury concern.

The Yorkshire pacer underwent some assessment by the physio and did not return back to the field of play. Luckily for the visitors, they did not miss his services much and managed to eke out a narrow win. After the conclusion of the match, the England team headed to Kanpur to prepare for the upcoming T20I series.

They are scheduled to play three T20Is against India with the first match scheduled to be played at Kanpur on January 26. However, Willey stayed back in Kolkata to undergo some scans before going forward on the tour. The England camp feared that the pacer might well be ruled out of the series. Much to their relief, the scan results did not show any severe problem and the 26-year old pacer is now set to join the England team on Tuesday.

As per the reports in Sky Sports, the medical staff will assess his situation again in Kanpur. It is worth noting that the English skipper Eoin Morgan has been very cautious in using David Willey during the ODI series.

Earlier during the previous ODI, Morgan had given the ball to Willey for only 5 overs. The move was largely criticised and many failed to comprehend the actions of Morgan back then. Now, it all appears clear and transparent. England wish to keep their new found pace sensation to stay fit considering the plethora of international matches that is coming their way. Do not get startled if Willey does not bowl his complete quota of overs in the T20Is too.
