Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) managed to win their IPL group-stage matches on April 23 after beating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) respectively. The afternoon match was some tussle between the two sides. However, the evening match was a one-sided affair in which SRH crushed their opponents.

SRH skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to field first. The decision proved to be spot on as RCB batters fell one after another. Apart from Glenn Maxwell and Suyash Prabhudessai, none of the Red Army batters crossed the double-digit mark. For SRH, pacers Marco Jansen and T Natarajan scalped three wickets each.

In reply, SRH skippers Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma played some handy knocks and sealed the deal for their team. For RCB, pacer Harshal Patel managed to get the wicket of opener Abhishek Sharma. None of the other bowlers managed to scalp a wicket.

GT managed to pip Kolkata Knight Riders in the afternoon match

In the afternoon match, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered their fourth consecutive loss with the latest coming against the new entrants Gujarat Titans (GT). The two-time champions could not chase down 157 runs with the Titans once again showing off their power with the ball. The Titans have now registered their sixth win of the season in seven matches and have reached the top of the points table with this win.

The new entrant, thanks to some excellent batting from skipper Hardik Pandya, reached a total of 156 runs. In reply, GT continued their impressive performance with the ball as express pacer Lockie Ferguson got the better of Nitish Rana while youngster Yash Dayal sent back captain Shreyas Iyer to leave KKR reeling at 34/4 in the 7th over.
Nonetheless, some excellent batting displays from Andre Russell and Rinku Singh ensured that KKR stay in the game. However, it was too much of a task for KKR batters as they fell short by eight runs. Spinner Rashid Khan was adjudged the Player of the Match for taking two crucial wickets and giving away just 22 runs in his four-over quota.
With this emphatic triumph, GT climbed to the top of the points table. Similarly, SRH has made a remarkable turn-around and now find themselves second on the points table. Rajasthan Royals (Third) and RCB (Fourth) are the other teams in the top four currently.
