Virat Kohli set to receive Polly Umrigar Award; Mandhana and Kaur best cricketers in the Women's category
All three cricketers have contributed in a massive way to Indian cricket.

Virat Kohli’s class and flair as a cricketer have left everyone awestruck over the years. The Delhi-born cricketer has tasted quite a bit of success in all forms of cricket. The skipper of the Indian national team is a holder of a plethora of records and is speculated to scale greater heights as his career progresses. He has also won the Arjuna Award and the Padma Shri in 2013 and 2017 respectively.
The 29-year old will now receive the Polly Umrigar Award for the best international cricketer (2016-17 and 2017-18) according to the latest press release from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their official website. The BCCI awards (Naman) is scheduled to be conducted in Bangalore on June 12. The ceremony is staged to reward Indian domestic and international cricketers from all age groups.
We have champion players
Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur will be the recipient of the same award in the women’s category for 2016-17 and 2017-18 respectively. Mandhana has emerged as a swashbuckling opening batter and has been a pivotal factor towards India’s glorious run. Kaur’s unflinching style of batting has been a matter of concern for many teams. Both cricketers have also played in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia.
Vinod Rai, the chairman of the Committee of Administrators (CoA) hailed Indian cricket and the contribution by the players. “I congratulate all the winners of the BCCI Annual Awards. The last two years have been fabulous for Indian Cricket with both the men and women’s teams doing very well. We are proud of their achievements and this is our small way of acknowledging their on-field efforts,” Rai mentioned.
“Every year we have champion players delivering champion performances. Awards help boost a player’s confidence and we only hope that we get more noteworthy performances in the season to follow,” Rahul Johri, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the BCCI remarked.
