Voices of Victory – A compilation of Words Spoken By MI team After thumping their IPL win: As it happened, MI overpowered CSK to snatch their second IPL trophy after 2013. And for a side comprising of a brightening coaching staffs in the likes of Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, Robin Singh, Jonty Rhodes, Shane Bond and Anil Kumble, it was no wonder that MI would go onto write a fairy tale in IPL 2015.
Emerging from the bottom of the table, finishing off in the number two position at the end of the group stages, and eventually went on to win the IPL trophy, MI were simply spellbound and each of the member associated with the squad were ecstatic to say the least.
Here goes a compilation of the words spoken by the members associated with the IPL 2015 Champions after the match:
Lendl Simmons: “When we lost the first wicket, we needed to consolidate a bit. We assessed the pitch really well and got a good score on the board.”
Harbhajan Singh: “It feels great. We didn’t start well but proud of the way we ended. I am really really happy with the way I have performed. Playing for India is the most important thing. Doing well here has helped me get back.”
Parthiv Patel: “We have played really well. We didn’t start off well, but it is a great personal journey. I have been part of a winning CSK side, but to contribute so much throughout is great.”
Hardik Pandya: “I coped well with the pressure.”
Parthiv Patel: “Hardik didn’t pay for the haircut, hence that celebration.” [His celebration after the catch]
Vinay Kumar: “It was not that easy to bat on this wicket. We planned to not bowl to their strengths.”
Robin Singh: “Lasith has not only bowled better over the season, he has got fitter as well. He has fed off other international bowlers as well.”
Ricky Ponting: “Extremely satisfying. I told the boys these have been a special couple of months, and that it would be memorable if we capped it off. Yeah stressful after the first six matches, didn’t have nails left, but we have come back well. The way the team has grown, the way our captain has grown, it has been special. We played probably our best match in the final.”
Jonty Rhodes: “I don’t chew my nails. I don’t pull my hair off. It’s hanging in there. Others – like the head coach – are losing their nails and hair. Not me.”
Lasith Malinga: “I have been with Mumbai Indians every year. It’s a great feeling. We didn’t start well but we finished it right. Bowlers can do something different in T20 cricket, Mitchell (McClenaghan) did a great job for us. Everyone did well and that’s why we are here today.”
Kieron Pollard: “No one would have believed that we will be here after the start we got. I can take the tape off. The staff and management have done well. I want to thank them as well for supporting us. The experienced players need to come to the party. Most of the experienced guys won games for us. Youngsters like Hardik too won game for us. It was a total team effort.”
Shane Bond: “Of course, it was not a great start for us. The boys have turned it around, they have been magnificent. The situation was not great at the start, but the character everyone has shown is great.”
Anil Kumble: “It means a lot. Even two years ago, it was a similar kind of start. We won it against the same opposition and at the same venue. Credit to Rohit with the way he played. Obviously, when we got 200 on the board, it was going to be tough for the opposition. The support staff have done really well. Bhajji has been working really hard. He has been a great performer. McClenaghan and Malinga at the top, then Bhajji, Suchith and Vinay too bowled really well. The batters have done their job too.”
Sachin Tendulkar: “I wasn’t nervous. We were just telling ourselves that it was just another match for us. It was all about going out there and executing our plans. The support staff was doing a good job. As and when my inputs were needed, I shared it with the batters. Overall, it has been a terrific turnaround after a poor start. It was tough season for us, but we stuck together. Our batting picked up as time went by. They worked hard and got some victories, the time went by and we kept playing better cricket by the day. It’s always great to be here.”
Rohit Sharma on the Presentation Ceremony: “Whenever I have come here, I have taken happy memories back. It has been a very good journey. To bounce back from that situation we found ourselves in in the first half is very rare. It has been a great journey. I couldn’t have asked for more. It was important to show character. We knew we had guys who could do that. This is the sweetest victory because we came from nowhere, with people writing us off.”
