Wahab Riaz cried before the World Cup Quarter final match:

When a player gets to represent his country in a mega event like World Cup, feeling of honor and pride overpowers everything. Similarly, Wahab stamped his name in the cricket world with his brutal spell in the World Cup 2015 when Pakistan was struggling, really bad against Australia. But, very few know the hindsight of the happenings before a match and Riaz also had his moments of overriding emotions as words in the dressing room before the quarter final encounter propelled tears from his eyes.

The Pakistan pace bowling sensation Wahab Riaz wrecked the nerves of the Australians and especially Shane Watson in the recently concluded World Cup 2015 Quarter final match; finally revealed the inspiration which kicked him to sway away the wrath of Australians on their very own backyard in that match. Although, Australia won the match but it was Wahab Riaz who won the world with his ferocious display of prowess in that quivering spell.

Riaz could take part only in few matches of the series against Sri Lanka due to a fracture in hand. Due to this injury, he was present in Pakistan to celebrate Eid and also became the part of the Dunya News on their Eid show. He unlocked many mysteries about himself but his revelations about the World Cup Quarter final match and former Pakistan ODI skipper Misbah-Ul-Haq in particular, rubbed and captured the emotions of many people in the country.

Wahab expressed how Misbah’s words of encouragement moved him into tears and inspirited him to do something magical for the sake of the Pakistani people and glory of his motherland. Riaz said, “Before the quarterfinal we played against Australia, we all sat in the team meeting as usual to discuss our game plan and in that meeting things changed for all of us especially me”.

“First Waqar the head coach made a short speech and his words were really encouraging and then after him Misbah stood up and he too made a short speech but it was too emotional and he couldn’t stop his tears”, said the 30-year old.

He also outlined how a leader like Misbah performs his duty in the backroom even though he is cursed and crucified in his nation by many. He further asserted that, “I myself saw tears falling from my captain’s eyes as he wanted us to give a fight for our nation and our country’s sake. After that there was no way I could have let it all go down the drain. Misbah was the inspiration for all of us”.

He also explained how Mark Waugh’s words about his team ignited the fire in him and when it got combined with Misbah’s pep talk, it molded magic in this Lahore born speedster. Wahab said, “His (Misbah’s) words did the trick. Before this I heard Mark Waugh commenting on our team and minnows and as per him if he had won that match it would have been an upset. First Mark’s words and later what Misbah said did ignited something in me”.

Wahab who mocked the Australians in their very own style of aggression and delivered a fiery spell of deadly bouncers on a flat pitch said, “I when went out to the ground I had only one thing in mind that I will make their lives as much hard as possible. Win or loss doesn’t matter but they will remember me for a long time. I wanted them to know we Pakistanis have all the capabilities it just the path that we don’t know about”.
