Ever since becoming the coach of the Indian cricket team, Anil Kumble seems to have inculcated the winning habit into his side. Since he has taken over from the outgoing Ravi Shastri, Kumble has also seemingly inculcated the so-called ‘arm around the shoulder habit’ as well.

While the former leg-spinner’s track record as a coach stands out thus far, there was something interesting that took place at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.

At the conclusion of India’s 500th Test match, Shikhar Dhawan, who missed out on the national team initially was given an open net session.

Amit Mishra, who also missed out on selection as well, was one of those who bowled to him. With fielders scattered around to prevent the ball going out of sight, Anil Kumble, in his trademark sunglasses and his shorts limbered up to have a crack at Dhawan.

Of course, Kumble was rusty in the handful of deliveries he bowled to Dhawan, but, it gave the likes of Aakash Chopra and many others a chance to relive the glory years of Indian test cricket from 2007 and 2008.

Dhawan, India’s 30-year old southpaw impressed as he played a quick leg glance away from the wicket, something Justin Langer would have been proud of.

India got their job done in the 500th Test match as they went ahead and claimed an impressive win over the Kiwis. While Ravi Ashwin, the man of the moment of sorts gave his interview to Alan Wilkins, Zaheer Khan, and Stephen Fleming, Kumble was seemingly sweating it out in the open net with Shikhar Dhawan. That should tell you everything you need to know about the incumbent Indian coach’s commitment.
