Ravindra Jadeja is in the news for the most part whenever India plays a Test match. He doesn’t spin the ball a great deal. Yet he gets wickets. When he does not get his wickets, he is still an integral part of the Indian squad in an all-rounder capacity. However, in the recent India v New Zealand series, Ravindra Jadeja has been in the news for all the bad reasons.
The previous match saw Jadeja warned a few times by standing umpire Rod Tucker for running on the pitch in the previous Test a Kolkata. While the 27-year old was pulled-up for excessive appealing as well as showing dissent to the umpire, some came to the southpaw’s defense when forensic evidence and post-match analysis showed a few terrible decisions made by Tucker in the course of the match.
However, in the third match against New Zealand at Indore, Jadeja was back to his antics of over-appealing. However, this time, around, it was the calmness of Kumar Dharmasena who warded off the appeals. Yet, ‘Sir Jadeja’, as he is fondly known was in the news for almost clattering into Trent Boult in the first innings.
The first innings, when the Indians were en route to their massive score, Trent Boult was given the herculean task of containing the dynamic duo of Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja. While Boult could not contain them, one particular incident is something that will linger on for the next few months to say the very least.

In one particular spell, Boult found himself on the wrong end of a tumble before Ravindra Jadeja ran over the fallen Boult. Had it not been for Jadeja’s athleticism, a spike from the shoe of the southpaw would have clattered into Boult’s head causing a near-sever injury. The fact that it was avoided was something quite spectacular given the circumstances.
