Australia is currently dominating New Zealand in the first Test at Wellington. But, pacer Trent Boult with his brilliant effort gave the supporters a real reason to cheer. Adam Voges and Usman Khawaja were plundering the Black Caps bowlers. Khawaja had already completed his century. The weary day was nearing its end and the seamers were putting in all their reserved energy to strike a breakthrough.
But, the 85th over of the day turned out to be a maniac over by Trent Boult who gave a double strike to the Aussies late in the day to bring relief to the New Zealanders.
He first trapped Usman Khawaja (140) leg-before off the first ball to end his 216 balls stay at the crease. The left-arm swing bowler created another opportunity immediately off the next ball after an awkward Marsh wasn’t able to deal with an in-swinger. The decision was reviewed by McCullum but the effort went in vain.
On the following ball Boult grabbed the eye-widening return catch to send the Australian all-rounder back to the dressing room for a second ball duck. The ball was little fuller than the previous one. Marsha tried a forward push but couldn’t keep the ball down. Boult has a knack of taking such catches and converted the half-chance into a wonderful catch.
The crowd cleared their lungs and roared as an amazed Trent Boult raised his hands confirming the catch. This catch was the highlight of the day. Boult’s reaction time was measured at 0.594 of a second.
