Watch: Wriddhiman Saha takes a flying one-handed catch

Watch: Wriddhiman Saha takes a flying one-handed catch: India’s wicketkeeper has had a wonderful series behind the stumps. On pitches that have spun prodigiously his glove work has been exemplary. India needed a big effort on day 5 to get past the South African batsmen’s defences and he showcased his class on a gripping final day.

After Tea, with light fading and chances of completing the overs looking grim, the home side needed 5 more wickets to seal the series 3-0. Umesh Yadav gave the team a perfect first over after the break, dismissing Villas who played on looking to defend an off-cutter. Yadav then went past Kyle Abbott’s defence with a cracking reverse swinging yorker that broke the leg-stump.

In the middle of an intense and hostile spell, he ran in with purpose and bowled at high speeds. The uneven bounce also troubled the batsmen. He used reverse swing expertly and kept the pressure on the batsmen. His 3rd wicket in this spell was courtesy Saha who took a sensational catch. Yadav hit the pitch short of a length, swerved the ball in at Piedt, who began to push at the ball before trying to pull his bat away. The ball followed him at around chest height and deflected off the face of his bat. Saha was almost going towards his left when he changed direction and leapt to his right, catching that ball with one hand in front of first slip.

India’s fielding standards were remarkably high in this series and was one of the reasons for the team’s success. The catching was sharp and backed the bowlers brilliantly. The close-in fielders grabbed every possible opportunity and kept the pressure on the visitors.
