Team India batting coach Vikram Rathour has highlighted team India’s poor batting performance during the second innings of the ongoing Test match between England and India. The coach has emphasized the fact that he was expecting one of the Indian batters to play a big knock but it did not happen.

To note, the visiting team scored just 245 runs in their innings with senior batter Cheteshwar Pujara and the wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant scoring 66 and 57 runs respectively. As a result, the Three Lions were given a target of 378 runs to chase in their second innings.

We were in a position to bat them out of the game: Vikram Rathour

“I’ll agree we had a pretty ordinary day as far as batting is concerned,” Rathour said in the press conference.

“We were ahead in the game. We were in a position where we could have batted them out of the game. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. A lot of them got starts but really couldn’t convert those starts. We were expecting one of them to play a big knock and have a big partnership, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen,” he added.

Chasing a total of 378 runs, team England had a flying start as openers Alex Lees and Zak Crawley stitched a 100+ run partnership for the first wicket. The visitors made a strong comeback in the match after grabbing three wickets while giving away just two runs between 107 and 109.

However, England’s ship was steadied by former England skipper Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow as both batters have completed their respective fifties and are currently unbeaten after the end of Day 4. For India, skipper Jasprit Bumrah has scalped two wickets and one wicket resulting in a runout.

While England require 119 runs to win, team India needs seven wickets to win the match and clinch a famous Test series victory on English soil. It remains to be seen how Day 5 of the rescheduled Test match will pan out.
