India will square off against hosts West Indies in the third and final ODI at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on 27th July (Wednesday). The match is a dead rubber as India have already claimed the series with two successive wins in the opening two matches.

India will look to give their bench a chance with the likes of Arshdeep Singh waiting eagerly for his 50-over debut for the country. West Indies, on the other hand, haven’t got much squad depth to play around, so they are unlikely to make any change and will hope to break their sequence of defeats in the format.

West Indies batted first in the second ODI after narrowly missing out on a victory in the series opener and posted a hefty total of 311 runs on the board on the back of Shai Hope’s immaculate 13th ton and skipper Nicholas Pooran’s attractive 74. The hosts dominated the proceedings with the ball in hand as the Indian batters struggled to score quickly at the crease.

The visitors were in the chase with valuable half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson, but after the dismissal of the pair in quick succession, West Indies were in the ascendency and were favourites to open their account in the series. But India’s Axar Patel, who was making an appearance in ODIs after a gap of almost five years, dashed the Caribbean team’s hopes with a scintillating half-century off 27 deliveries.

Even with wickets tumbling at one end, the southpaw kept his cool and finished the match with an unerring maximum over the bowler’s head in the final over to seal the series. India subjected West Indies to a 12th consecutive bilateral series loss after winning this nail-biting encounter.

Here’s a look at how the weather will behave during the WI vs IND clash

The second ODI at the same venue was interrupted by rain but it was just a passing shower and did not affect the play to any great extent. But the forecast for the third ODI isn’t that generous as rain is expected to be around in the afternoon, with a 78% chance of it around 1 PM local time with thunderstorms, according to Weather.com. We can expect to lose some overs due to rain in the contest.
