India Women completed the 5-match T20I series against West Indies with an emphatic 5-0 lead as they won the final game by 61 runs. Jemimah Rodrigues (50) and Veda Krishnamurthy (57*) rescued the visitors after openers got out at the score of 17. The duo added 117 for the 3rd wicket as India Women finished on 134/3.

In reply, the West Indies Women batted full 20 overs losing seven wickets but aggregated only 73 runs. Thus, Smriti Mandhana registered her maiden win as Indian captain with regular skipper Harmanpreet Kaur taking a rest for this match.

All the statistical highlights from India Women’s 5-0 series win against the West Indies:

A rare 5-0 win:

5-0 – India Women became the first team in T20I history (Men/Women) to win a T20I series by 5-0 margin against a full-member nation. Overall, they are the 3rd side to win a T20I series by 5-0 margin; all three recorded in Women’s cricket this year.

Zimbabwe Women defeated Namibia by 5-0 in January during a 7-match series where the first two matches were abandoned. Namibia Women bounced back in April by whitewashing Botswana in a 5-match series.

Anuja’s economical spell:

1.00 – Anuja Patil had an economy rate of 1.00 as she conceded only three runs in her three overs. This is the joint-most economical bowling figures for an Indian in a T20I game across Men’s and Women’s cricket. Anuja also bowled three overs conceding only three runs during the last year’s Asia Cup T20 game against Thailand.

Earlier in the 2009 Women’s WT20 match against Sri Lanka, Rumeli Dhar went for only four runs in her four overs. For India Men’s team, Bhuvneshwar Kumar conceded only three runs in his three overs during the 2014 WT20 match against West Indies.

India’s trusted bowler/fielder combinations:

13 – Taniya Bhatia affected 13 dismissals apiece in the bowling of Radha Yadav and Poonam Yadav. These are the joint 2nd most dismissals by a bowler/fielder combination in Women’s T20Is. Batool Fatima affected 14 dismissals across 28 matches in the bowling of Sadia Yousuf.

Veda and Jemimah rescue India:

117 – The 117-run stand between Jemimah Rodrigues and Veda Krishnamurthy is the 1st century partnership for India Women in T20Is for the 3rd wicket. Overall, this is the 9th 100-run T20I stand for India Women and seven of them recorded for the first wicket only.

A series of century stands:

3 – India became the first team to register three-century partnerships in the same T20I series/tournament in Women’s cricket. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma shared partnerships of 100+ runs in first two matches. This was also the first time three 100-run stands were recorded in the same bilateral Women’s T20I series.

Interestingly, India Women are only the 2nd team with this feat in T20Is across Men’s and Women’s cricket. Australian team recorded in during the last one month’s 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka at home. The Aussies had three-century partnerships in first two T20Is; all three involving David Warner.

Deepti equals Indian record:

8 – Deepti Sharma picked up 8 wickets in this series; the joint-most by an Indian Women in a bilateral T20I series. Priyanka Roy also claimed 8 wickets during the 2011 home T20I series against West Indies. In Men’s cricket, only Ravichandran Ashwin (9 vs Sri Lanka at home in 2016) took more than 8 wickets in a bilateral T20I series.
