The New Year did not start on a happy note for the top BCCI officials. The Supreme Court gave a massive setback to the richest cricketing board in the world by sacking its president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke. A show cause notice has been issued of mendacity and contempt of court. Both Thakur and Shirke will get time until January 19 to reply to the Supreme Court. The declaration came after Lodha Committee’s 3rd status report which they had submitted on November 14 asking for removing all top office bearers of the BCCI and all the state association.

The declaration came after Lodha Committee’s 3rd status report which they had submitted on November 14 asking for removing all top office bearers of the BCCI and all the state association. It is also expected that the top brass of BCCI officials will be replaced by a panel of administrators. Until then the senior most vice-president of the BCCI who complies with Lodha panel’s eligibility criteria can chair the meetings of the board.

While the sacking was mostly backed by the people on the social media, some questions now arise on the condition of the India v England limited overs series. There are some serious questions over how the sacking of the two top BCCI officials might affect the ODI and T20I series in line. England are scheduled to play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is against India in January with the first ODI commencing in Pune on January 15.

The BCCI officials were found guilty of perjury and hence were subsequently sacked. Now, there is a possibility of the board denying to host the India and England series as a mark of their disapproval of the sacking. So the question is what if the BCCI officials take this way and stand up for the sacked duo? Will the series still be played? Who will bear the logistics and the expenses?

Well, the news in that the series will be played without any interruptions or disturbances. If the officials and the office bearers of the Indian board decline to host the series, then the Lodha panel and the Supreme Court will appoint an interim body to ensure smooth conduct of the ODI and the T20 matches. Coming to cricket, England will be keen on playing better cricket after being drubbed 4-0 in the Test series.
