The ongoing first Test match between West Indies and England is evenly poised after two days of play. After England posted 311 while batting first, the hosts were 202/4 at stumps on the second day, trailing by 109 runs. The Antigua Test has certainly proceeded like a rollercoaster and it would be interesting to see how the remaining contest pans out.

Meanwhile, besides the on-field battle, Day 2 of the contest also witnessed a hilarious incident. Prior to the start of play, England skipper Joe Root discussed the plans and strategies with his teammates in a group huddle. This is certainly a common practice in cricket. However, what made this incident notable is the absence of pacer Mark Wood. The fast bowler seemed to be unaware about the meeting taking place as he had taken his position near the fine leg boundary ropes.

Hence, he was left bewildered when he saw his teammates gathering in a huddle. Coming to the hilarious part, Wood took a cheeky dig at his teammates as he acted like standing in a solo huddle while looking at his teammates. The clip of the same went viral in no time as fans were left in splits.

Mark Wood was impressive with the ball

Meanwhile, Wood enjoyed an impressive outing as his thunderbolts constantly troubled the West Indies batters. He gave away just 24 runs in 12 overs alongside taking an important wicket of opposition skipper Kraigg Brathwaite. He would like to continue the good work on Day 3 in order to put his side on command.

Speaking of the team’s bowling performance on Day 2, Wood admitted that England bowlers tried a ‘little too hard’ in James Anderson and Stuart Broad’s absence. For the unversed, the two veteran pacers were overlooked for this series.

“As can happen with any bowler, we just didn’t get it right at the start and maybe we tried a bit too hard. With the void of Anderson and Broad, maybe we wanted to try a bit hard and prove we can do it as a group,” Wood told Sky Sports.
