It was a memorable outing for the Indian team against West Indies at the Port of Spain in Trinidad as the Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian side lifted the silverware in style after defeating the hosts West Indies by 3-0 in the ODI series. Shubman Gill performed consistently throughout the series and bagged the Player of the Series award. While several lauded the youngster on social media, a tweet by the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore particularly caught everyone’s attention.

Gill played a very composed knock from the very first ball that he faced in the third game. He got off to a sluggish start but gained momentum as the game progressed. After a brief halt due to the proceedings, Gill went berserk and punished the West Indies bowlers alongside Shreyas Iyer by aiming for boundaries and hitting multiple fours and sixes.

When he reached the nervous nineties, he started playing cautiously in order to bag his maiden ODI ton. But RCB shared a congratulatory message for the youngster even before he crossed the three-figure mark. When Gill was on 98*(98), RCB tweeted his candid picture from the game and captioned it saying:

“Shubman Gill brings up his maiden international century, and the timing of the knock couldn’t have been more perfect. Take a bow, champ. #PlayBold #WIvIND #TeamIndia,” RCB had written in the post.

While Gill’s maiden ton looked almost confirmed, the game was again stopped due to rains, and the officials decided to put curtains over India’s innings. As a result, Gill was denied his dream century by just two runs. This also meant that RCB had to delete their tweet, but the screenshot of the post went viral in no time and as result, netizens trolled the franchise.

India scripted history with the 3-0 series win

Meanwhile, India bagged a historic triumph on the Caribbean soil as they defeated the hosts by 3-0 for the first time on their home soil in an ODI series. Though India have won many limited-overs series in the West Indies, they never successfully registered a series whitewash. But the Shikhar Dhawan-led side, which was filled with fresh and talented faces, with a lack of experience in the international arena, achieved the feat on Wednesday, July 27.
