Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar was in all awe for the current Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli. India registered 3 consecutive wins over England in the 5-match Test series. They have an unassailable 3-0 lead with a game to play. Clearly, the Virat Kohli-led side has dominated the visitors to the fullest. However, Gavaskar feels there are still some areas of captaincy that the 28-year-old needs to work on.

No wonder why he said that he would rate Kohli a 7 on 10 in the captaincy scale. In a recent conversation with NDTV, Sunil Gavaskar quoted, “I would give Virat Kohli’s captaincy a 7 on 10. There are certain areas of improvement.” In addition to that, he feels that though there are areas for improvement, Kohli’s men will succeed irrespective of the conditions that they play in.

“Kohli leads from the front and that is what lifts the confidence of the players. This will give them a belief that they can deliver anywhere, in any conditions,” he added further. Sunil Gavaskar did not shy away from complimenting the confidence of the Indian star batsman.

“Look at the confidence, look at his balance at the crease, look at the way he shapes up to play every delivery. That just tells you that Kohli will have a very special season,” remarked the former cricketer. “There is no such thing as a perfect batsman, but Virat is getting closer to it. His double hundred in Mumbai was near perfect,” he added further.

Virat Kohli’s dream run in 2016 reflects in the rankings. He is placed 2nd in the rankings for Tests and ODIs. He heads the tally in T20Is batsmen rankings. His success has been irrespective of the venues. However, success has eluded him in England.

Sunil Gavaskar reflected back on this aspect and said, “Virat has scored runs everywhere except England. You need to survive the early overs there. Temperament in key and that will decide how well he will perform in England. But I think he will deliver on his next tour there.”
