Windies vs India: Virat Kohli shares an update after copping a blow on his thumb from Kemar Roach

Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper, had a day to remember in the third ODI versus the Windies at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. He notched his 43rd ODI ton and helped the Men in Blue to a 2-0 series victory, winning the match by six wickets (DLS Method). Even as he dominated proceedings for most times, Kohli went through a bit of a stutter after getting hit on his right thumb.

In the 27th over of India’s run-chase, he was hit on the thumb by a vicious bouncer from speedster Kemar Roach. He looked in reasonable pain after which the physios and medical staff rushed on to the pitch to provide Kohli with the required treatment. Following India’s resounding show, the Delhi-born Virat shared an update on the injury and sounded confident of not developing a fracture.

“I don’t think it’s a fracture otherwise I wouldn’t have continued (batting). It’s just a split of the nail. Luckily, it’s not broken. When I got hit I thought it was worse than what it turned out to be. But it’s not broken so I should be good for the first Test,” the run-machine Kohli said on being asked about the condition of the right thumb,” Kohli was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Virat Kohli went on to stay unbeaten, having scored 114 runs off 99 balls with the help of 14 scorching boundaries. He scored the century off 94 deliveries and oozed class, keeping the Windies bowlers at bay for a significant amount of time. India were set with a revised target of 255 in 35 overs. The Caribbean team scored 240, but the target was increased since rain halted play in the first innings.

The 30-year-old came to bat after the home team lost Rohit Sharma cheaply to a run-out in the third over. He injected momentum into the innings with a 66-run stand with Shikhar Dhawan. Southpaw Rishabh Pant went for a golden duck, following which Virat resumed the good work with Shreyas Iyer. The duo put on 120 runs for the fourth wicket and fizzled the spirit out of Jason Holder and Co.
