The semi-finalists from Group A are also confirmed after the two games that were played on Day 8 of the Women’s World T20 2018. It will be England and the Windies who will advance forward to the knockouts. On Day-7, India and Australia from Group B have already got through.

Four out of the top five teams in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings will battle it out in the do-or-die games starting from 23 November 2018. For the first time in the tournament, the Windies have shown their prowess with the bat. Already a highly dominative bowling side, this performance with the bat should do their confidence a world of good. Their performance against Sri Lanka sends out warning messages for the teams going ahead.

England Women vs South Africa Women (Group A) – Match 15

South Africa Women were nowhere near their best in this match and were extremely disappointing. They were bundled out for just 85 runs in 19.3 overs. Chloe Tyron with 27 runs was the highest run-scorer for the side. Natalie Sciver and Anya Shrubsole picked three wickets each. The former was just terrific and returned with the figures of 4-1-4-3.

It was a very easy chase for the Brits. The openers added 55 runs for the first wicket in 8.1 overs. Heather Knight and Amy Jones were unbeaten on 14 runs each as England Women won the match by 7 wickets and with about 6 overs to spare. Skipper Dane van Niekerk, who looked extremely dejected after the loss picked up two wickets in the innings.

Brief Scores:

SA-W: 85/10 in 19.3 overs (Chloe Tyron 27, M du Preez 16, Natalie Sciver 3/4)

ENG-W: 87/3 in 14.1 overs (Danielle Wyatt 27, Tammy Beaumont 24, van Niekerk 2/13)

Result: England Women won by 7 wickets.

Windies Women vs Sri Lanka Women (Group A) – Match 16

The Windies batting brutality was on display in this game. Opener Hayley Matthews was just dominating the bowlers right from the word go. She scored 62 off just 36 balls to take the side off to a flyer. A 35-ball 49 from Deandra Dottin and a 25-ball 41 from skipper Stefanie Taylor helped the hosts post a huge total of 187 runs on the board in 20 overs.

It was always going to be a tough chase for Sri Lanka. With the kind of bowling lineup the Windies have, a loss was inevitable. Skipper Athapaththu was the lone warrior for the side. She scored 44 off 35 balls which definitely wasn’t sufficient. None of the other batters could contribute and the side was eventually bowled out for 104 runs in 17.4 overs.

Brief Scores:

WI-W: 187/5 in 20 overs (Hayley Matthews 62, Deandra Dottin 49, O Ranasinghe 1/21)

SL-W: 104/10 in 17.3 overs (Athapaththu 44, Nilakshi de Silva 11, Hayley Mathews 3/16)

Result: Windies Women won by 83 runs.
