The World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and New Zealand has been severely marred by rain. The playing conditions have stayed overcast and there have been plenty of delays due to rain. The first and fourth days were completely washed away due to heavy downpour. However, as per an update from Dinesh Karthik, the Reserve Day looks promising.

The fifth day was a witness to the sun coming out, a rarity in the ongoing game at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. If the last day’s play isn’t marred by rain, a result may even be possible. Karthik, who is a part of the commentary panel for the marquee match, stated that the weather for the final day is great for playing cricket.

Dinesh Karthik gives an update

He took to Twitter and wrote, “We are clear for the FINAL Day! This has been the best weather so far I’ve been here. Final assignment for Weatherman DK.”

Recently, Karthik has garnered praise for his witty piece of commentary along with Nasser Hussain, the former England captain. In India’s first innings, Hussain lauded Rohit Sharma for playing the pull shot with precision and for combating quality spin bowling by using his feet.

“Rohit is a great puller of the short ball. Uses his feet well against spin. Shows positive intent,” Hussain was quoted as saying.

Later, Karthik poked fun at Hussain, saying, “Yes, exactly the opposite of you!”. Thereafter, renowned cricket journalist Harsha Bhogle, and many others praised Karthik for his free-flowing and humorous style of commentary.

As far as the match is concerned, India are currently leading by 32 runs with eight wickets left in the second innings. In the final session of Day five, veteran fast bowler Tim Southee got rid of both the Indian openers- Rohit and Shubman Gill. Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara are the overnight batters.

Earlier, Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian batter, said that India won’t be able to bowl the Black Caps out in the second innings. The Little Master stated that Virat Kohli and Co need to get quick runs on the board and then insert the Kiwis for batting at the earliest.
