Fitness and fielding has been of equal importance in cricket these days. Team India, after struggling in the fielding department over the years, now boasts one of the best fielding sides in the last few years. Ravindra Jadeja has been leading the way in that aspect and is being termed as the best fielder in world cricket by many cricket experts and former cricketers.
Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has echoed similar words praising the cricketer from Saurashtra. He reckons that Jadeja is the best fielder in the game at the moment despite not fielding at slip or gully. Gambhir lauded his former teammates’ ability to throw the ball and cover the outfield quickly. Jadeja has affected run-outs in the middle thanks to his athletic fielding.
Gambhir also pointed out that the southpaw never drops catches and is one of the safest pair of hands in cricket nowadays. “I think, in world cricket, there is no better fielder than Jadeja, an overall fielder. Maybe he doesn’t field at slip and gully, but no one is better than him in throwing.
“No one covers the outfield like him. Put him at point or cover, you can get him to field anywhere. No one has a safer pair of hands than him. Ravindra Jadeja, probably is the best fielder in world cricket,” he said while speaking at Star Sports’ Cricket Connected show.
Jonty Rhodes and Steve Smith had praised Ravindra Jadeja earlier
Recently, former South Africa cricketer Jonty Rhodes had also praised Ravindra Jadeja for his fielding during a live Instagram session with Suresh Raina. He stated that the 31-year-old anticipates the ball well and lauded his commitment to the game while also recalling some of the blinders he has taken on the field.
“Jaddu has taken some fantastic catches. The key is he is very committed. He is very good at anticipating the ball also,” he had said. Earlier, even former Australia captain Steve Smith had picked Jadeja as the best fielder in the world during the Q&A session on Instagram.
