Two teams apart from the top 8 will have a chance to feature in the World Cup 2019, but the road isn’t as easy. They will have to win their way through the World Cup Qualifiers scheduled to be played in March this year to book their tickets. Among the teams featuring in the contest is the host Zimbabwe. The national selectors have named a squad for the Qualifiers.
They decided to recall all-rounder Sean Williams to the squad who last donned the national outfit in July 2017 against Sri Lanka. And another name that makes a return on the team sheet is Cephas Zhuwao. It was his performance for Zimbabwe A against Kenya where he scored a hundred and a couple of 40s that helped him regain the faith of the selectors having last played an international match in 2011.
What also worked in their favour was the poor form of Ryan Burl and Tarisai Musakanda who were included in the team for the Afghanistan series but failed to impress. And that they churned out the runs in domestic cricket.
Zimbabwe Cricket made the announcement on Twitter stating – “@ZimCricketv have recalled Sean Williams and Cephas Zhuwao for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier. The two were not named in the initial 15-player squad, but have been included in place of Ryan Burl and Tarisai Musakanda,”
