Ricardo Powell was a Jamaican cricketer who began his international cricket career at the age of 20. After topping the Jamaican averages in the 1999 Busta Cup, it was just a matter of time that he was selected in the Windies cricket team. Powell quickly became headlines after scoring 124 from 93 balls by hitting 8 sixes against India which was a Windies cricket record. He was the youngest Windies cricketer to score an ODI ton.

His 2000 ODI runs came at a strike rate of 96.66, which is the highest by a Windies player with more than 1000 ODI runs. But despite this magnificent start, he couldn’t continue to make it bigger. He soon became a One Day specialist and was never considered seriously for Test matches after his single test appearance in New Zealand.

The worst part was when he lost his reputation as a limited-overs specialist and struggled to retain place even in the One Day side. His run of low scores and consistency made him irregular in One Day matches. Finally, he decided to take a break in 2006-07 and never came back to the arena of cricket.
