Mohun Bagan batsman Arindam Gosh created history in the CAB Superleague final as he became the first Indian to score a century in a pink ball match. Gosh, who plays for the Railways in the Ranji Trophy has also played for India at the U19 level in the past. Arindam smashed a variant 125 as the ‘Pink Ball experiment’ is turning out to be a massive success. History has also been created in the Eden Gardens in the four-day final of the Bengal Superleague after the pink ball was used.

Arindam’s knock comes just a day after Indian pacer Mohammad Shami became India’s first bowler to take five wickets with the pink ball. In addition, a bemused Shami also added that the ball was ‘radium-like’ with its color, its shine and ability to extract reverse swing. However, the 125 runs scored by Ghosh has now seen many rejoice over the pink ball as it has now given batsmen and bowlers something to rejoice.

Unbeaten on 49 overnight , the former India U19 player battled severely hot conditions in the afternoon to lead Mohun Bagan to 349 from 88.1 overs in the second innings, setting Bhowanipore a target of 496. Ghosh brought up his century in style as he smashed off-spinner Writtick Chatterjee into the stands. This occurred three overs before the players broke for tea as he hit 11 fours and five sixes in his knock from 225 balls, spanning five hours and nine minutes.

Arindam Ghosh joined up with teammate Anustup Majumdar as they made batting look incredibly easy with an 84-run stand. No 8 Sanjib Sanyal lent a fine 75-run partnership with a 68-ball 51 (7×4, 1×6). Bhwowanipore seamer Ayan Bhattacharya claimed 6/96 as there was some respite for the battered seamers on the day.

In reply, Bhowanipore were 132 for 6 in 35 overs, still needing 364 to win with Shami (2 for 79) sharing the first two wickets in a marathon 15-over spell.
