Melbourne Renegades made a thumping start to the BBL 2020-21 as they clinched the 7-wicket win over the Perth Scorchers on Saturday. The Renegades’ pacers Josh Lalor and Kane Richardson picked up three wickets apiece to keep the Scorchers down to just 130 at the Bellerive Oval. The opening pair of Aaron Finch (35 off 28) and Shaun Marsh added 70 in only 8.2 overs to seal the Bash Boost point. Marsh struck eight boundaries during his 47-ball 62 as Renegades completed the chase in only 16.3 overs.

End of Scorchers’ winning spree in Hobart:

4 – The 7-wicket defeat against the Melbourne Renegades brought an end to Perth Scorchers’ 4-match winning streak at the Hobart’s Bellerive Oval. After losing to Hobart Hurricanes by six wickets in 2012-13 season, the Scorchers went 4-0 at this venue until the end of 2019-20 season.

3-2Melbourne Renegades now has won three of the five Big Bash League games they played against the Perth Scorchers since the start of 2018-19 edition. Scorchers won all the eight BBL matches they played against the Renegades until the beginning of the 2018-19 season.


Lalor’s 5th BBL franchise:

5 – Melbourne Renegades became the 5th franchise which Josh Lalor has represented in Big Bash League after Perth Scorchers, Sydney Sixers, Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat. Lalor is now the first player to feature in at least one match for five different teams in the BBL history. Ben Dunk, Joe Mennie, Alex Hales, Nathan Reardon and Daniel Christian are second on the list having played for four teams.


Kane’s good record against the Scorchers:

22 – Kane Richardson has claimed as many as 22 wickets across 15 BBL matches against the Perth Scorchers which are now the joint-most number of wickets against an opponent in the BBL. Richardson equalled Cameron Boyce who has bagged 22 wickets in only 13 matches against the Brisbane Heat.

14 – Kane Richardson now has picked 3-wicket hauls in as many as 14 occasions in the BBL; two more than any other player in the league. He has taken four 3-wicket hauls against the Scorchers only which are 2nd most 3-fers against an opponent in the BBL behind Sean Abbott’s five 3-fers against Brisbane Heat.

  


Fifty in milestone game for Marsh:

18Shaun Marsh, in what was his 50th match in the Big Bash League, scored 62 which is his 18th fifty of the league. Only Aaron Finch (20) and Chris Lynn (19) have got more 50+ scores in the BBL than Shaun Marsh.


Marsh gets out LBW for the first time:

1 – Mitchell Marsh has been dismissed via ‘LBW’ for the first time in his Twenty20 career. Marsh has batted 86 times in 93 T20 matches before this BBL but never got via LBW in the T20 format.

Peter Hatzoglou, the bowler who dismissed Mitchell Marsh, was not only making his BBL debut during the REN vs SCO game, but also his professional career debut.


Jhye @ 50 wickets:

51 – Jhye Richardson completed 50 wickets in the Twenty20 format when he dismissed Aaron Finch during REN vs SCO. 42 of Richardson’s 51 wickets in the T20 format came in the Big Bash League only while the rest 9 wickets in T20I cricket.
