Due to turmoil at the top sphere of governance within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the body has been subjected to incompetence at the grassroot, managerial and clerical levels. One of the major issues cited out after the first round of the Ranji Trophy was BCCI officials such as umpires and scorers forced to work without remuneration.

Sources suggest that the officials are devoid of their payment due to the proposed raise in pay this season. Now the authorities are unsure whether to mention the old match fee or the proposed, revised fee in the invoice they are supposed to submit after every match.

Therefore, the BCCI officials have stopped raising the invoice hoping for the revised pay structure will be implemented. As of now, three rounds have already been played in Ranji Trophy and other tournaments apart from the Duleep Trophy.

In fact, the fourth round of the Ranji Trophy is scheduled to commence from the Wednesday. The BCCI’s finance committee has recommended raise across the board in the domestic circuit, for players, match officials and scorers.

“I will check this matter tomorrow before I can say anything,” claimed BCCI CFO Santosh Rangnekar according to New Indian Express. BCCI General Manager (game development) Ratnakar Shetty said he can’t comment as he doesn’t deal with this. Attempts to reach CoA members proved futile.

“We are hoping that the revised pay will be implemented. That’s why we have not submitted claims as we usually do after every match. We are not sure if the previous amount is to be mentioned or the new one. We have been informally told to wait for the raise and submit the invoice accordingly,” commented a BCCI umpire, who has officiated in three rounds of matches this season.
