When MS Dhoni was out of form in the Indian Premier League 2020 and 2021, a lot of former cricketers including Aakash Chopra mentioned the importance of him continuing as he has the ability to change the complexion of the game via his decision-making capabilities. This shows the importance of having a quality leader in T20 cricket these days.

Even though a lot of data have made it simpler in the shortest format of the game, there still are skippers who back their guts and are getting the necessary results. Jos Buttler, the white-ball leader in the England team has made sure that they stick to the idea of playing an aggressive brand of cricket and they are now the T20 World Champions.

These small but necessary factors play a huge role in a title-winning campaign. International captains are trying to follow the same path as various franchise cricket teams and are getting better day by day. This is the reason behind few associate nations being capable of causing an upset on the grandest stage.

Now, as there are no more T20Is left to play among full member nations of ICC, it is the perfect time to look back and find out the most successful skippers in 2022. Without further ado, let’s jump straight in -

5 Captains with best winning percentage in T20Is in 2022

5. Babar Azam - 53.84%

Despite scathing criticism from former players during the T20 World Cup, Pakistan captain Babar Azam took the team to the finals of the marquee event but unfortunately lost to England by 5 wickets.

More so, his record in T20I cricket speaks volumes. The 28-year-old led Pakistan in 26 T20I matches in 2022 and won 14 of them. With a win percentage of 53.84, Babar is the joint most successful skipper in the calendar year. Kane Williamson, who has the same percentage couldn’t make it into the top five as he has seven fewer wins in the format.

Even as a batter, Babar had a tremendous year in T20Is. In 26 matches, he smashed 735 runs at a strike rate of 123.32. With five 50s and a century to his name in the year, the Pakistan captain can term it as yet another successful year in international cricket.
