Following India’s 209-run humiliating defeat at the hands of Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final 2023, Indian cricket supporters are demanding changes in the Test squad. Noting back-to-back failures of senior stalwarts, fans want the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to trust new faces to take the team ahead in the future.

Recently, some names have performed exceptionally in domestic cricket, and noting their performances, the board has included a few players in India’s Test team that will tour the West Indies in July 2023. During the Caribbean tour, these players are favourites to make their Tests debuts, while some who didn’t get selected for the upcoming Test series might be seen donning India whites in the near future.

Here are five domestic players who are favourites to get their debut Test caps soon

5. Abhimanyu Easwaran

Bengal top-order Abhimanyu Easwaran didn’t get a Test call-up for the West Indies tour but he could become a part of India’s squad in the upcoming months. In the domestic circuit, he is active for Bengal since 2013 and so far, he has scored 6567 runs with 22 tons and 26 fifties in 152 innings of 88 matches.

In the Ranji Trophy 2022-23, Bengal concluded their journey as runners-up, losing to Saurashtra in the final at Eden Gardens. As an opener, Easwaran played his part efficiently in the competition, delivering fabulous starts to his team. Notching up 798 runs with three centuries and three fifties in 14 innings of eight Tests, he ended up becoming the third-leading run-scorer for Bengal in the tournament.

The right-handed batter has a lot of experience in the domestic circuit and noting that, the board might trust him to represent the national team in the longest format of the sport in the near future.
