Winning skipper Babar Azam said:

"All credit to the boys the way we played in all three departments. We know, if Fakhar bats for 20-30 overs, it's a different ball game, he played his natural game. Good to see him. We are trying to win the next two matches, we'll see where we stand. We started well, the way Shaheen started. After 15-20 overs, they built a partnership, our main bowlers picked wickets. We picked wickets in the middle overs. Thank you (fans) so much for the support," Babar said.

Thank you for joining us. See you all tomorrow. Goodnight!

Losing skipper Shakib Al Hasan said:

"Not enough runs, The wicket was really good, we lost early wickets again. There were some partnerships, but not big partnerships. Disappointing with the bat. Credit should go to Pakistan, the way they bowled and the way they batted in the first 10 overs. (On his batting position) We'll have to think about that. We are not getting many runs from the top four batsmen. I was batting in the top four, I wasn't scoring. My confidence was low too. Luckily I got some runs, felling better now. At this moment, changing too many things gets difficult. We have to keep moving forward. We have to perform together. We need collective performance, which is not happening. Two more matches, hopefully we can bounce back. Everywhere we go, they (fans) keep supporting us. We have to give something back to them so they can smile," Shakib said.

Fakhar Zaman adjudged POTM:

"After the Asia Cup, I practiced a lot on my batting, I was looking good at the camp and was looking forward to making it to the team. Today, my hard work paid off after I was given a chance. I told Abdullah that I will see off the first few overs, I knew I could hit big sixes. My role is to make it easy for my partner, so it was important to see off the first few overs and then play my shots. NRR was in our mind after we reached 100, the aim was to finish it off in 30 overs. I had too many failures, I was looking towards such a knock and hopefully I'll make bigger scores in the next few games," Zaman said.

The action will continue in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as Pakistan (PAK) and Bangladesh (BAN) take on each other in Match 31 on Tuesday, October 31 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Both teams have been having a barren run in the tournament so far as Pakistan are coming into the game having lost their last four games while Bangladesh failed to register a win in their last five matches.

The Babar Azam-led side began their tournament with back-to-back wins against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. However, their campaign went on a downward slope following the eighth consecutive loss against arch-rivals India in ODI World Cup history. Following their four consecutive losses, Pakistan find themselves on the sixth spot on the points table with two wins from six matches having four points to their name.

On the other hand, Bangladesh started their campaign on a winning note having beaten Afghanistan by six wickets. However, they failed to register a win following that and went on to lose five consecutive matches. As a result, they’re on the ninth spot on the points table with one win from six matches having two points to their name.

The Shakib-al-Hasan-led side doesn’t even have an outside chance of qualification and will be playing to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025. Notably, teams finishing in the top seven positions on the points table along with hosts Pakistan will qualify for the next ICC ODI event.

Pakistan need to win each and every game to stay alive in semi finals race

Meanwhile, Pakistan have their back against the wall as any further loss will lead to their elimination from the tournament. The 1992 champions need to win all of their remaining games and will have to depend on other team’s results as well to stay alive in the semi-final race. Hence, they cannot afford any more mistakes and need to bring their A-game to the fore in the upcoming tournament.

Hence, the upcoming fixture promises to be a great battle between the two teams who’re desperate to return on the winning track after a string of losses.
