New Zealand coach Gary Stead has backed team's skipper Kane Williamson to come good at the 2022 T20 World Cup. Williamson has not been at his best recently, but Stead has said that Williamson will show his true colors in the upcoming mega tournament, set to start on October 16.

Stead also talked about winning the trophy in the upcoming competition. To note, New Zealand has suffered several heartbreaks in the final of ICC events in past. The Kiwi side was one of the finalists in the 2015 ODI World Cup where they lost to Australia.

In the next 50-over World Cup, the Blackcaps again reached the final match after defeating India in the semis. However, luck was not on their side as they lost to England via boundary count rule. Team New Zealand took its revenge from the English side as they defeated them during the 2021 T20 World Cup semi-final, but again they ended up as runners-up after losing to Australia in the final match.

Kane Williamsom is one of the hardest workers: Head Coach Stead

New Zealand will take on Australia in its opening encounter of the T20 World Cup which will be played in Sydney on October 22.

"Kane is one of the hardest workers I have seen on his game and he continues to be. A big score is around the corner," said Stead as quoted by The Times of India. "I think it's always difficult when you're such a prolific run scorer as Kane has been."

A few questions were also raised about Williamson's leadership after his side received a 0-3 beating against Australia in an ODI series recently. Stead was also asked a question about it to which he replied, 'We scrap away.'

At present, the Kiwi side have reached the finals of New Zealand T20I Tri-Series 2022 and will compete against Pakistan to win the series on October 14. After completing the tri-series, the Blackcaps will travel to its neighboring country to participate in the T20 World Cup.
