Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis has joined the team camp ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. The tournament will begin on March 31 with Gujarat Titans (GT) hosting Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The former South Africa captain Du Plessis was signed by RCB in the IPL 2022 player auction and later handed the responsibility to lead the team.
RCB had a brilliant IPL season last year, finishing fourth in the points table and having won eight of their 14 matches. Du Plessis is coming for his second stint with RCB, after leading Joburg Super Kings to the semi-finals of the inaugural edition of SA20. The Proteas batter will be hoping to help the side to win their maiden IPL title this year.
Notably, Du Plessis last played in the inaugural season of the SA20, whereby he took his team Joberg Super Kings to the semi-finals. Now, speaking of his captaincy stint with the RCB, Plessis led RCB to the third position in last year's edition of the IPL. Therefore, the Protea will be aiming to gun for the glory moving ahead.
Meanwhile, the Bangalore skipper has landed in India to join his teammates. As per a tweet posted by the RCB Twitter handle, Plessis can be seen giving thumbs up on a positive note after reaching India. The RCB indicated to the skip that it is nothing less than a home for the South African leader.

RCB will host MI in their tournament opener
Royal Challengers Bangalore will kickstart their IPL season against five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 2 at the iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
Before starting their campaign, the franchise has decided to honour its legends Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers at the RCB Unbox Event, which is scheduled to be held on March 26. The franchise will retire the jersey numbers of the former players (Gayle- 333, De Villiers- 17) during the event and will induct them into the RCB Hall of Fame.
The legendary cricketers have served RCB for a long period. Notably, they have brought a lot of success for the team as well as individually. The three-time IPL finalists hope for a potential display from their men’s side after the women’s team got knocked out of the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL). RCB Women had a terrible season in the first-ever WPL, having lost six of their eight matches. The Smriti Mandhana-led women’s team finished in fourth place with just four points.
