‘I will play for Pakistan again’ - Mohammad Amir hints at potential return to national team

Retired Pakistan pace spearhead Mohammad Amir expressed his delight on the prospect of making a return to the national side. Owing to a lack of opportunities under former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja, Amir decided to call it quits as he last represented the side in a T20I match against England in 2020. 

However, days after Ramiz was sacked by the apex board, the newly appointed PCB chairman Najam Sethi allowed the pacer to train at the National High Performance Centre. Speaking to reporters, the 30-year-old said he is excited about donning the Pakistan jersey again. 

"If Allah wills, I will play for Pakistan again. But I would like to play and perform well in PSL," Amir was quoted as saying by NDTV.

It is worth mentioning that a 14-member committee, headed by Sethi, has been appointed to run the affairs of the game for the next four months following Raja's sacking. Amir spoke highly of Sethi and interim chief selector Shahid Afridi, stating that the duo had "invested" in him heavily. 

"I've been tortured by being told the PCB invested a lot in me. I'll just say two people invested in me a lot: (former PCB chairman) Najam Sethi and (former Pakistan skipper) Shahid Afridi. They were the only two. The rest of the team was saying, 'we don't want to play with Amir'," the pacer said while announcing his retirement from international cricket in December 2020.

The Punjab-born pacer has featured in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 50 T20Is wherein he has racked up 119, 81, and 59 wickets respectively.
