England pacer Chris Jordan has joined Mumbai Indians for the remainder of the IPL 2023 season as the replacement for compatriot Jofra Archer who has been battling injury woes. The Rohit Sharma-led side is currently struggling with the ball in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Jhye Richardson. Thus, Jordan’s inclusion will bolster their bowling unit.
Mumbai have played ten matches thus far and Archer has only featured in five of those games. Meanwhile, there is no update on Jofra Archer’s injury. Earlier, reports emerged that Archer had gone to Belgium for a minor procedure on his right elbow. Even though he played against Punjab Kings after that, he did not feature in Mumbai’s game against Gujarat Titans.
Mumbai are thin on fast bowling reserves and it has reflected in the way their campaign has panned out thus far. The duo of Riley Meredith and Jason Behrendorff has not done exceedingly well in the season thus far and it has put some extra pressure on Piyush Chawla who has been nothing sort of sensational in the ongoing season for the five-time champions.
Mumbai also have a headache in the form of Rohit Sharma's poor form. The skipper is struggling with his willow and scored 184 runs in ten games at a paltry strike rate of 126.90. His average has also taken a major hit as it is just 18.40. Rohit has only managed to hit a single fifty and needs to come back to form as soon as possible for MI to remain in the race to qualify for the playoffs.
Mumbai will be locking horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore in their own den at Wankhede on Tuesday, May 9. The Rohit Sharma-led side is coming into this contest on the back of a crushing defeat that they suffered at the hands of Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on May 6. MI have won five and lost the same amount of games in the season thus far.
