Chennai Super Kings will clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 5. The high-intensity match has encountered a hiccup just before the game. According to reports, the Hyderabad Cricket Association has failed to pay the electricity bill for DISCOM. As a result, the electricity has been cut off from the stadium.

The report further added that the HCA failed to clear the electricity dues worth 1.6 crore. The outstanding amount was a result of a failed payment for seven years. The primary notice was served to the association in February 2024 and the board failed to comply with the notice. The department has in return disconnected the power supply to the stadium.

“Electricity has been cut off at the Hyderabad Cricket Stadium ahead of the IPL Match. The HCA hasn’t paid a bill of 1. 6 crore to DISCOM since 7 years. Earlier they approached the court asking them to consider their plea. First notice was served in February 2024. There wasn’t any response from HCA, despite continuous follow ups. The department has already disconnected power supply,” the report stated as quoted by the Newsmeter.

Sunrisers Hyderabad provide meaning to IPL extravaganza

Sunrisers Hyderabad have been living up to the hype they had created after the IPL auctions, many had anticipated them as the show-stealers looking at the formidable squad on paper. They even bought Pat Cummins for a whopping 20.5 crore. Eventually, Cummins replaced Aiden Markram as the captain. The management aimed to encash the Australia captains Midas touch with the silverware over the years.

However, they started with a defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in their opening game. But, their carnage against Mumbai Indians scripted history in IPL. The team went on to break the long-held record by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the highest total. They amassed 277 runs against MI and went on to win the game by 31 runs.
