Match 56 of IPL 2023 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals on Thursday, May 11 was an action-packed encounter as Yuzvendra Chahal scripted history by becoming the highest wicket-taker in IPL in the first innings. The records continued to tumble in the second innings as well, as Yashasvi Jaiswal scored the second-most number of runs in the first over in IPL history. The 21-year-old took Nitish Rana to the cleaners and whacked him for 26 runs in the first over.

Defending 149, the KKR captain started the proceedings with the ball, however, the move backfired as the in-form young sensation stamped his authority against Rana on the first ball of the innings, coming down the track and smashing him over long on for a maximum.

The second ball was also given the same treatment as Jaiswal slog-swept it over deep-backward square leg for another maximum and made his intentions clear. He further smacked consecutive fours on the third and fourth delivery and took a double on the fifth ball which made Rana breathe easy. But the opener gave no respite to the KKR captain and collected another boundary on the last ball of the over.

Jaiswal continued his onslaught in the second over as well and clobbered Harshit Rana for a four and a six on the fifth and sixth delivery respectively. The Uttar Pradesh-born batter showed no signs of stopping and went on to score a hattrick of fours in the third over to bring up the fastest fifty in the history of IPL. The youngster reached the landmark in just 13 balls, leaving behind KL Rahul and Pat Cummins who had achieved the feat in 14 balls. Courtesy of his breathtaking knock, RR finished the powerplay on 78/1.
