'There will be some retirements also coming through'- Sunil Gavaskar's blunt opinion after India's defeat to England

Jos Buttler's England stormed into the final of the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia after dishing out a masterclass in batting against a hapless Indian bowling attack. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has made a bold remark after India's embarrassing loss, hinting that there might be a few retirements coming from the Indian camp in the aftermath of another disappointing ICC tournament.

India's loss against the Three Lions have once again put the spotlight on the much-maligned Indian top order, who failed to utilize the conditions in the semi-final in Adelaide. Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar highlighted the fact that several current Indian players, including skipper Rohit Sharma, are in their 30s, and with the next T20 World Cup still a couple of years away, there might be a few retirements impending.

"There will be some retirements also coming through, you never know. This is not the time to think about it. You really get away from it, give it a lot of thought but there are a lot of players in their mid-30s who would consider their position for the Indian T20 team," Gavaskar told the broadcaster after the match.

The batting legend highlighted the appointment of Hardik Pandya as captain for their next assignment against New Zealand as a new beginning for the Indian team. Gavaskar feels that the flamboyant all-rounder will stamp his authority in the upcoming series and will lead a 'completely different' Indian team post the T20 World Cup.

"For the tour of New Zealand, it's a different team. The team is going there under Hardik Pandya. He will begin to put his stamp on the team because clearly, the selection comittee has sent a signal that he, having won the IPL in his first assignment, as a captain, they have marked him out as captain for T20s. So I think with Pandya, it will be a completely different team," the former Indian opener added.
