Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s inclusion in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad is still a mystery. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar is said to have had a meeting with the batting greats in South Africa, where both the cricketers confirmed their desire to participate in the mega tournament. However, the BCCI or the players are yet to comment about the same. Former leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, however, backed Rohit and Kohli to cement their position in the team as he believes that their experience will come in handy for the team.

Meanwhile, neither Rohit nor Kohli played a T20I match since the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final. Their participation in the upcoming three-match series against Afghanistan is also not certain yet, but Chawla expects both the cricketers to make their return to the shortest format. He also believes that Rohit and Kohli are eager to do something special to win the T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA.

“You can look at it differently as well because Kohli and Rohit must be thinking the other way (Asked if they will carry baggage from the past). They want to do something special to really win the World Cup. You don't think like there is baggage or something because once you are on the field, you don't think about what happened in the past, you are just living that current situation. If you ask me personally, I would say that experience matters in crunch situations,” Chawla said on Star Sports.

The selectors can just wait and watch: Sanjay Manjrekar

Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar said that the selectors should wait and watch and take a final call by looking at the form of cricketers in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. He added that the selectors might also have to make some tough calls if required.

“The selectors can just wait and watch. You play the waiting game. They have to wait until the time for selection comes. Then they have to make tough calls. And it will be very easy for them to see — Rohit Sharma's form, Virat Kohli's form, and everyone else who are competing their form in the IPL,” Manjrekar said.
