Perplexity reigned across the nation on the evening of the 74th Independence Day. “Consider me retired from 1929 hrs” read an Instagram post with a 4:07 minute video and that’s how the ruler of our hearts, Mahendra Singh Dhoni hung up his boots.

Dhoni had caught everyone off guard once before in 2014 with his retirement from Tests cricket during India’s tour of Australia in December 2014. He concluded a press conference after a drawn Test at Melbourne and a moment later a press release from BCCI conveyed the information about MSD’s decision.

An astute leader, shrewd captain, crafty wicketkeeper, and unparalleled finisher, Dhoni was a force, a complete army in himself. Born in a middle-class family in Ranchi, he made an uproar in the town with his cricketing skills ever since his early days. He strode into the national team in 2004 after shining at A-level cricket and the world by storm with his iconic and ruthless style.

He belted 148 in his fifth ODI against arch-rivals Pakistan and soon followed it by a massive 183* against Sri Lanka and declared that he was here to stay. India scaled innumerable heights under MS Dhoni’s reign as they went onto win the inaugural T20 World CUP in 2007, followed by the ICC World Cup of 2011, and Champions Trophy in 2013.

Reading his incredible achievements as a captain almost makes us forget about what a brilliant batsman he was. He scored 17,266 runs being a player who batted seven times out of ten with tail-enders and as someone who barely had a fixed position to bat. Also, Mahi, with 10,773 runs in 50-overs cricket, happens to be the only the second keeper-batsman who has aggregated over 10,000 runs in ODIs.

Despite giving India tons of glory and victories in the 16 years of his illustrious career, his last moment on the cricket field in Indian colors will remain to be the hapless exit of the nation from the World Cup of 2019 in the semi-final clash against New Zealand. But Dhoni, the man, was beyond victories and defeats.

On this occasion, CricTracker is here to test your memory through a quiz on MS Dhoni. Make no mistake, we are not going to ask anything about the 148, 183*, or the World Cups! Buckle yourselves up and check out whether you are a true MSDian or not.
